Indonesia's Large-Scale Anti-Plastic Bag Movement Sparks New Wave of "Plastic Ban" – Polyrocks Chemical (2020.10.30)

In recent years, a large-scale anti-plastic bag movement has emerged in Jakarta, Indonesia's capital, urging citizens to reduce single-use plastic bags while promoting marine conservation awareness. This initiative responds to severe issues caused by plastic waste flowing into rivers and oceans, including clogged urban waterways, increased flood risks, and marine life fatalities from ingestion or entanglement. Indonesia contributes approximately 1.3 million tons of plastic waste to oceans annually, ranking among the world's top ten marine plastic polluters.

In March 2018, a British diver captured shocking footage of plastic debris floating underwater near Bali, a popular Indonesian tourist destination. The incident drew global attention to Bali's plastic pollution crisis. According to statistics released by Indonesia's Ministry of Environment and Forestry in June 2018, about 12 million tons of marine litter—40% of which was plastic—had accumulated in Indonesian waters over the previous year, devastating marine ecosystems.

To address escalating marine plastic pollution, the Indonesian government has reignited its "plastic ban" campaign, aiming to reduce plastic waste by 70% by 2025 compared to 2017 levels through these measures:

1.Reinstating the plastic ban policy

2.Implementing a plastic product tax

3.Enhancing public environmental education, particularly among youth, through lectures and practical activities to emphasize the urgency of conservation

4.Incorporating plastic waste management into Indonesia's "Industry 4.0" strategy. The recently passed Industry 4.0 Budget Amendment allocates an additional 2.57 trillion IDR (~1.209 billion CNY) to accelerate progress, including establishing a plastic waste recycling system.

Committed to green materials innovation, Polyrocks Chemical has strategically developed six business segments.
