The 2025 TrendBank Green Hydrogen Industry Conference was held in Wuxi from August 27-28. This conference brought together enterprises from the entire hydrogen industry chain – production, storage, transportation, and application – to discuss green hydrogen technology iteration and ecosystem development. Anhui Polyrocks Hydro-Friend Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Polyrocks Chemical, was awarded the "2025 Green Hydrogen Technology Breakthrough Award" at the conference for its R&D breakthroughs and practical achievements in the field of Anion Exchange Membrane technology.

Against the backdrop of the accelerating global energy transition, green hydrogen's strategic importance as a key energy carrier for achieving carbon neutrality goals is becoming increasingly prominent. Currently, the green hydrogen industry is at a critical stage of scaling up, where breaking through material bottlenecks and reducing system costs have become industry consensus. Since its establishment in June 2024, Polyrocks Hydro-Friend has focused on the R&D and industrialization of AEM materials. Its AEMemr® series products have achieved significant breakthroughs in conductivity, stability, and cost control, providing critical material support for advancing the commercialization of green hydrogen.

Taking the core product AEMemr®-PAW-1-60 as an example, this membrane material successfully enables the use of non-precious metal catalysts. Under conditions of 1 M KOH and 80°C, it requires only 1.8 V to reach a current density of 3.0 A/cm², with a Faraday efficiency exceeding 99% and a dynamic response time of less than 1 second, allowing it to efficiently adapt to the fluctuating characteristics of renewable wind and solar power. This product also possesses excellent properties such as high strength, high conductivity, and low swelling. Its tensile strength reaches 50 MPa, and its OH⁻ ion conductivity is 180 mS/cm (at 80°C). After 2450 hours of continuous testing, the voltage rise rate was only 3.3 μV/h, demonstrating excellent product stability.
At the application level, AEMemr®-PAW-1-60 has been successfully applied in domestic AEM water electrolysis demonstration projects, helping to reduce system costs for precious metal catalysts by over 30% and effectively improving the absorption capacity for variable renewable energy. Furthermore, Polyrocks Hydro-Friend has introduced the catalyst layer ionomer material AEMemr®-PAI-1-5E, the first high-performance polyelectrolyte material in China capable of large-scale production. It combines excellent adhesion and mechanical stability with the ability to rapidly expel product gases, preventing gas accumulation within the catalyst layer and thus avoiding the blockage of active sites. It also efficiently agglomerates and assembles with various catalysts, preventing catalyst layer damage. Used in combination with the AEMemr®-PAW-1-60 membrane, this material provides a complete material solution for AEM water electrolysis systems.

It is reported that Polyrocks Hydro-Friend will launch its second-generation anion exchange membrane product in September this year. The new generation product shows further improvements in reducing swelling and hydrogen-in-oxygen content, expected to enhance electrolyzer stability and safety.

In the future, Polyrocks Hydro-Friend will continue to deepen its R&D in AEM technology and accelerate the construction of large-scale production lines. Through close collaboration with upstream and downstream enterprises in the industrial chain and scientific research institutions, the company aims to jointly promote cost reduction and efficiency improvement in the green hydrogen industry, providing Chinese material solutions for building a sustainable green hydrogen ecosystem.
